ABOUT US

We are two churches, Word of Hope and St. Martha’s, who have joined together to be one church, Grace United.

MEET OUR PASTOR-Laura Altman

Pastor Laura Altman began serving our congregation in June, 2022.  She grew up in Northwest Indiana where her siblings still reside.  After high school, she received an undergraduate degree from Purdue in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration from Kennesaw State University in Georgia.  She worked many years in the telecommunications industry in Engineering, Marketing and Training.

After several life changes, she felt the call to ordained ministry.  She graduated from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC) and was ordained in the summer of 2000.  Since her ordination she has served congregations in the Indiana-Kentucky Synod of the ELCA.

Pastor Laura is married to Don Altman who works with Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores.  Their son Stephen DeWitte, also a graduate of Purdue University works in his Civil Engineering field with the Kentucky Cabinet of Transportation. Stephen is married to Katie who teaches at UK.

Pastor Laura sees her ministry as building bridges between one another and God.  She loves to open up scriptures and show how God is in our everyday lives.

Join us for worship on Sunday mornings on ZOOM and in person at 10 am.  We also have a less structured service in person and on Youtube at 5pm.

Pastor Laura can be reached at PastorLauraA@hotmail.com

Noah Lindsay

Before I began attending Grace United in 2023, a life of steady decline into self hardship was my adverse pursuit; until I found God. Now, I can enjoy seeing those around me come to know our Father, and watch them thrive through him. When not at church or meetings, you can find me working at a local Krogers, playing video games with friends, and enjoying the peace that life through Faith can bring.

Chuck Young-Co-treasurer

Chuck Young is a long time resident of Lexington, where his wife Carol and he have lived since 1989. He is a lifelong guitarist and musician, and loves playing in the 10 am services and performing locally with the contradance band Dreamdance. He formerly enjoyed coaching youth soccer for twenty years with Lexington Youth Soccer Association, once earning a state wide coach of the year award.

Professionally, he is the Agency Services Officer at God’s Pantry Food Bank. He has been with the food bank for 10 years, and it has been the most rewarding experience of his entire professional life.
